High School principal Hemiller leaving HMS to serve two schools as Superintendent
Nate Hemiller, principal at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School, will be leaving the position this summer to take on the role of shared superintendent at East Sac County and Ar-We-Va.
Hemiller has been principal since 2016. He came to HMS following nine years at North Iowa Community School District in Buffalo Center where he was a high school science teacher, activities director and coach.
Although he has enjoyed his time at HMS, Hemiller knew that he would eventually make the transition from principal to superintendent. Friends from the East Sac County district urged him to apply for this particular opening.
Hemiller expressed pride in several accomplishments at HMS, including improvement on the Iowa School Report Card and Iowa Assessment Scores, a positive culture shift at the high school, staff recruitment and curriculum changes.
The East Sac County District is made up of the communities of Sac City, Lake View, Wall Lake and Auburn. Ar-We-Va derives its name from the Arcadia, Westside and Vail communities. There are nearly 800 students at East Sac County and more than two hundred at Ar-We-Va. Hemiller looks to use his experience as an educator to positively impact his new students, families and communities.
Hemiller said his time at HMS has been rewarding and enjoyable and that the HMS community will have a special place in his heart and in those of his family.
