Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s lone appearance in this year’s Okoboji Softball Tournament was a notable one, but for all the wrong reasons. The Hawks totaled twice as many errors (eight) as hits (four) in losing to Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire 17-0 June 24 at Milford. The Titans scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh to prolong the HMS agony. The Hawks dipped to 11-10 with the loss.
GTRA moved on to the championship game to face Sioux Central and lost 5-0. The Rebels captured that contest 5-0. Sioux Central had defeated Okoboji 11-0 in the first game of the day.
Kamryn Ebel, Abby Otto, Gracie Knobloch and Morgan Grooters each had a single for the Hawks. Knobloch fought all the way through to the end in the pitcher’s circle. She allowed 15 hits but only three of the 17 runs were earned. Knobloch struck out 10 batters and issued just two walks.
