Hawks suffer WEC loss to Trinity Christian
Trinity Christian picked up its first War Eagle Conference victory of the season by turning back Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 5-2 June 28 at Hull. The Tigers, HMS and South O’Brien each finished the conference portion of the season with 1-9 records.
“A tough way to end the regular season, but we will regroup and get ourselves ready for Saturday,” said Hawk head coach Jeremy Gloden.
Trinity took a 2-0 advantage in the second. The Hawks cut the lead in half in the fourth. Tanner Tesch was hit by a pitch and Trenton Vollink singled. Tesch came home on a passed ball. The Tigers scored two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.
In the top of the seventh Evan Eilers and Aiden Bush hit back-to-back singles. Again, it was a passed ball that allowed the run to score. The final two outs of the game were fly balls to third and to center.
There were just two other hits for HMS. Vollink singled in the second and Bradley Van Beek had a base hit in the sixth. The Hawks left four runners on base while Trinity stranded nine.
Tesch tossed all six innings, allowing six hits. Three of the runs were earned. He struck out four batters, hit three and walked two. HMS was guilty of four errors.
