Edwin Vern Norton, 73, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota passed from this life on June 26, 2023.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 30 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Sanborn Community Center.
Ed was born at home on June 29, 1949 in Sanborn, Iowa to parents Vern and Lois Norton. He grew up in Sanborn and graduated from high school there in 1967. Ed was very athletic and lettered in almost every sport including track and field, football and basketball.
After high school, Ed was drafted into the Army and served his country from 1969 until 1972. He then pursued further education at Iowa Lakes College in Estherville, Iowa and Augustana College in Sioux Falls.
After earning his degree, Ed became a teacher and taught Physical Education in Sioux Falls. He went on to a career in construction and was a master handyman. He could build or fix anything and often lent his skills to friends and family outside of work.
Ed also loved golf – watching and playing. Ed was generous with his time and talent and while he liked to see the results of his work, he was never one for attention or praise. He cared dearly for the people who were most important to him – friends and family alike – and he will be greatly missed.
Ed is survived by his daughters, Olivia Norton of Sioux Falls, SD and Angie Gobar of Lakeville, MN; granddaughter, Mya Gobar of Lakeville, MN; siblings, Barb Mohn, Rick Norton, Debra (Lon) Holz, Nancy (Murray) Martens, and Ward Norton; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rob Norton.
