No injuries reported in rural Sanborn
A fire in the early hours of January 16 destroyed a house northeast of Sanborn.
Sanborn Fire Department was called at about 12:25 a.m. to a house fire on Sorrel Avenue, two miles east and a mile and a half north of Sanborn.
According to Sanborn Fire Chief Randy Lyman, the fire department saw fire from the roof as they approached the scene. Firefighters mounted an interior attack, but when they got upstairs to see if they could get into the attic, the roof started caving in. They then switched to an exterior attack and called for assistance from the Sheldon Fire Company’s aerial truck. Firefighters were on the scene for nearly five hours.
Lyman said the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature. No injuries were reported. Sanborn Fire Department also received assisted from the Melvin and Hartley fire departments, who brought water to the scene.
According to Lyman, the home is a group home for people who work at Van Ess Dairy. Lyman said the house was totaled in the fire and that the Dairy has made other living arrangements for the occupants of the house.
