Two Okoboji/HMS wrestlers are runners-up at Siouxland Conference Tourney
A pair of wrestlers for Okoboji/HMS came up just short in their efforts to become individual conference champions as the Siouxland Conference Wrestling Tournament was conducted January 25 at Sioux Center. James Gellerman at 175 pounds and Nathaniel Franklyn at 165 each lost a 1st Place Match by decision: Gellerman 9-5 to Sioux Center’s Reid Hulshof and Franklyn 5-1 to Brock Mulder of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.
Joining Gellerman as wrestlers from HMS competing were Nathan Stofferan at 113 pounds, David Wetrich at 215 and Bryce Ortega at 285. Stofferan lost his semifinal but won his consolation semi to wrestle in the 3rd Place Match, where he defeated Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Jackson Van Der Sloot 4-1. Ortega finished in fifth place and Wetrich in sixth.
The Pioneers were seventh in the team standings, scoring 103 points. The team champion was Central Lyon/George-Little Rock with a 170 total.
