O’Brien County Fair Readies for 100 Years

by Mari Radtke
Darwin Gaudian and Kevin Mars have visited with O’Brien County Supervisors and with Primghar City Council giving updates of the Fair Board’s activities. A big project on the agenda to complete this year is the upgrades to the show ring building.
The Fair Board added a large fan over the show ring last year to help with cooling the area on typically hot July days. More work to the show building will be underway this year to include a cover over the show ring west door. The project has been awarded $40,000 from American Rescue Plan Act funds (ARPA).
Other looking ahead projects as the O’Brien County Fair readies for its 100 year celebration is adding more camping spots. They’ve hesitated to build more even though they are always full at least during the fair. The wait list for camping spots has risen in recent years and remained at a level the Fair Board feels warrants adding additional camping spots at the Fairgrounds.
The O’Brien Fair takes place July 20-25, 2024. Make plans now to help celebrate 100 years.
