Big inning is key for Wolves in win over HMS
A seven-run fourth inning boosted Harris-Lake Park over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 11-5 in a War Eagle Conference softball game played May 24 at Hartley. It was the opening conference game for HMS, which dipped to 1-2 after one week of action.
Each team scored a run in the first inning and Harris-Lake Park added another in the second. The Hawks took a brief 3-2 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. After the visitors’ uprising in the fourth they tacked on single runs in the fifth and seventh. HMS scored its final two runs in the seventh.
Gracie Knobloch was 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and two runs batted in. Kinsey Schirmer had a hit, an RBI and scored two runs. Eliza Tewes also had a hit and an RBI. Kamryn Ebel singled, reached on an error and scored two runs. Natalie Daggett stroked a double while Delaney Murphy and Frankie Mohni each notched a single with Mohni coming around to score. Knobloch stole a base as did Mohni.
Ebel again went the distance in the pitcher’s circle. She gave up 17 hits and 10 of the HLP 12 runs were earned. Ebel notched nine K’s along with issuing two walks and hitting two batters.
