Jays hold down HMS
Gehlen Catholic limited Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn to one hit over five innings in handing the Hawks a 12-2 baseball loss June 12 at Le Mars. The Jays used a pair of pitchers, Ashton Budden and Brayden Horkey to turn the trick.
The lone hit for the HMS was an RBI double off the bat of Hunter Daggett. Drawing one walk apiece were Jack Mastbergen, Jacob Cates, Grant Kunzman, Ricky Smith, Riley Wiersma and Aidan Espeland. It was Espeland who picked up the other RBI. Scoring the runs were Kunzman and Wiersma.
Daggett was given the starting pitching assignment and went one inning. He yielded five walks and one hit, resulting in six runs, two of which were earned. Lawton Schiphoff tossed the remaining innings, allowing six runs on five hits and four walks. Four of the runs were earned. The Hawks totaled four errors.
