The Sanborn City Council met in special session Tuesday, June 25th, 2024, in the Donald Kroese Council Chambers. Mayor Randy Lyman called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m. with the following Council Members present: Jerry Back (via call-in), Kevin Groendyke, Brian Visser, Aaron Wiekamp and Larry Reitsma. Others present: Jim Zeutenhorst, Adam Roelfs, Chris Cammann and Brianna Visser.
Motion Reitsma, seconded by Groendyke to approve the agenda. Roll call was taken. Vote results: Ayes 5 /Nays 0
Chris Cammann approached Council seeking enforcement of illegal sump pump and sanitary sewer connections; Council is looking into enforcement measures moving forward. Brianna Visser was present to discuss church and private groups that were offering help with cleanup efforts to those in need; she sought assistance from Council and City staff to increase the volunteer efforts. The council agreed and will designate the grass clipping area at the tree dump for residents to bring flood debris. Currently, city staff are assessing damage to the city’s infrastructure and essential services, primarily the wastewater treatment plant and the lagoons. Once that is stable, they would reassess how cleanup efforts are going. At this time, it was agreed to wait a week or two and offer pick of white goods (appliances) door to door or as needed. There being no further business to come before the Council, Motion Groendyke, seconded by Wiekamp, to adjourn at 8:22 a.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting will take place on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 5:00p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
