Bryon Storm sustains serious leg injuries from sweep auger
Bryon Storm, a rural Sanborn farmer, received serious injuries to his legs after he was caught in a sweep auger.
On July 8 at 11:08 a.m. a 911 call was received at the O’Brien County communications center for an unknown emergency at 3317 Pierce Ave. Emergency services from the Sanborn Fire Department and Sheldon Ambulance, along with O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the location southwest of Sanborn.
Sanborn Fire Department personnel arrived first on scene and located Storm, age 71, inside a grain bin on the farm. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Storm had gotten caught on the inside sweep auger of the grain bin but had freed himself upon arrival of the emergency services personnel. Sanborn Fire Department personnel were able to shut the auger system down. They, along with Sheriff deputies, removed Storm from the grain bin and rendered aid.
Storm received serious injuries to both of his legs as a result of getting caught in the bin auger. He was transported by Sheldon Ambulance to the Sheldon Sanford Hospital and then airlifted to Sioux Falls Sanford Hospital. As of press time Monday evening he remained a patient there where they are treating his infection and attempting to relieve his severe pain.
