Dana Joseph Epping
1961-2021

Dana Joseph Epping was born in Sheldon, Iowa to Gary “Mick” and Joann Epping on May 21st 1961. Dana spent his childhood in Sanborn, IA and Sioux Falls, SD. He joined the U.S. Navy and traveled around the world in support of the P-3 aircraft. After serving his country for 4 years he was honorably discharged.
Dana then began a long career with Lockheed Martin, beginning at Moffett Field Naval Air Station in Mountain View, CA continuing support Naval aircraft and was eventually stationed at Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego, CA as the Senior Airframe & Powerplant Specialist supporting the C-130 aircraft for the Marine Corp. Dana was well known and respected by his colleagues both in the military and within Lockheed for his knowledge and work ethic. He loved his work and the interaction with young people on base.
But more than anything else, Dana loved his family. He was a dedicated father devoted to his children. Dana was at his best when at home with his kids. He loved his California home. Dana loved to cook and was constantly experimenting with his grills, smokers and fryers. He also enjoyed tinkering in the garage, working on his vintage Jaguar and helping his neighbors when he could.
Dana left this world on January 11, 2021 at the age of 59. He is survived by his children; Mallory of Los Angeles, CA, Jacob of San Diego, CA and Lindsay of San Diego, CA, his mother Joann Askeland of Sanborn, IA, his brother Michael (Laura) of Blue Springs, MO and his partner Lauren of San Diego, CA. Dana was preceded in death by his father Gary “Mick” Epping. Plans for a Memorial Service will follow.
