It’s Poor Shooting and Turnovers (Part Two) as Hawks fall to Unity
For the second consecutive night, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s search for baskets uncovered only eight of the elusive things. That number was not nearly enough to threaten a Unity Christian squad that sported an unblemished War Eagle Conference record. In the end, the Knights posted a 63-20 win in the game played January 29 at Orange City. With the loss, the Hawks fell to 2-6 in conference play and to 4-13 on the season.
HMS shot 24 percent for the game with 33 field goal attempts. The Knights were more than twice as accurate with 29 hoops in 52 tries for 56 percent. Each team made a pair of three-pointers. At the free throw line the Hawks were 2-of-4 and Unity was 3-of-3.
With 32 turnovers, HMS had nearly as many giveaways as they did shots at the basket. Lydia Harders’ four steals were part of the 19-turnover evening for the Knights.
The 20 Hawk points were distributed among five players. Taya Mason scored seven points, Harders five, Emily Otto four and Jasmine Lux and Olivia Grooters two apiece. Unity also owned the boards with 30 rebounds. Helping HMS reach its total of 16 rebounds were Lux, Grooters, Otto and Emily Mutombo, each with three.
HMS 6 4 10 0 – 20
Unity 26 13 17 7 – 63
