7th Annual I-29 Moo University Dairy Beef Short Course to be offered virtually March 23
The I-29 Moo University Collaboration will host the 7th Annual Dairy Beef Short Course online, March 23. This educational opportunity will be offered as a webinar rather than face-to-face in 2021 due to the COVID-19 situation.
The event is geared towards producers and industry members involved in dairy beef production, but it is open to anyone with an interest in the topic. There will be a morning session from 10:00 a.m. to Noon (all times CST) with a lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. followed by the afternoon session from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
“The presenters at this year’s Dairy Beef Short Course are industry leaders who will provide insight into factors influencing dairy beef performance along with looking at the future of dairy beef production from a consumer lens and economic standpoint,” said Fred Hall, dairy specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. “The Dairy Beef Short Course continues to be one of the premiere dairy beef events in North America and is held as a pre-educational event for the Central Plains Dairy Expo – albeit this year, virtual.”
The 2021 agenda and virtual speaker lineup focuses on two key topics – health factors affecting dairy beef animal performance and the future of dairy beef production.
From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Tara Felix from Penn State will address “The Role of Nutrition and Implants in Dairy Beef Health and Animal Performance” and Phil Durst from Michigan State University will touch on “The Employee Influence on Dairy Beef Health and Performance.”
Following the lunch break, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Bill Halfman from the University of Wisconsin-Madison will share information on “Understanding what Influences your Return on Investment” and Lisa Scebbi from JBS USA will cover “Future Consumer Trends to Optimize Market Opportunities in Dairy Beef.” There will also be time for question and answer sessions.
