HMS Receives All I’s at District Individual Speech
Seven Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn students virtually competed in the Individual District Speech Contest on Saturday, February 27. All of their performances received I ratings, earning them the opportunity to compete in the State Individual Speech Contest.
Three seniors competed in three different categories. Emily Sindt and Desyre Martinez competed for the second year in a row. Emily received her I rating in Radio News Announcing, while Desyre received a I in Improvisational Acting. For Chayton Faulkner, this was his first time competing. He received his I in the category of Acting.
Juniors Anissa Bush, Jaela Anliker, and Juliana Pasillas returned for a second year of speech competition. Anissa shared her talents in the interpretive reading categories of Poetry and Prose. Jaela performed an acting piece, and Juliana presented an original oratory that she wrote.
One freshman joined the experienced team. Annika Overmire competed in Radio News Announcing.
These students will now refine their performances for the State competition on March 13.
