This weekend saw two teams from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn compete in the Virtual Iowa Quiz Bowl Championships. The HMS Varsity team consisted of Bennett Haack, Christian Voss, Sam Heyn and Brenton Thomas. They posted an overall record of 5-1 earning State Runner-up in the Small School Division with wins over Chariton, Bishop Heelan, Rivermont, Logan-Magnolia and MVAOCOU before losing in the championship match to Des Moines Christian.
The HMS JV team was made up of Hailey Grotluschen, Tommy Den Hartog, George Vargas, and Alyssa Gibbons. That team competed at the varsity level in the small schools division and went 0-4.
“It was a great day of Quiz Bowl!” said Naet Hoaglund, coach of the HMS Quiz Bowl teams.
