Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn sprinters supplied the highlights as the track and field boys participated in MOC-Floyd Valley’s Dutch Relays held April 6 at Northwestern College in Orage City. Competing in Class B, the Hawks saw Connor Dodd win the 100 meters, just ahead of second-place finisher Noah Adams. Both were part of the 4×100 unit that also came in first. The other two members of the 4×100 team are Kooper Ebel and Dawson Schiphoff.
HMS placed fifth in Class B with 70 points. Western Christian won the meet with 148 points, just ahead of Gehlen Catholic, which finished with 143 points.
Dodd was second in the 200 meters and Ebel placed third in the 400 meters. Another third-place finisher for the Hawks was the 4×800 relay group of Ethan Diehm, Aiden Espeland, Mitchell Meyers and George Vargas. Adams added a fourth in the long jump and was part of the fourth-place 4×200 meter team along with Ebel, Schiphoff and Dodd. The other HMS relay to finish fourth was the 4×400, made up of Ryan Borden, Travis Kamradt, Trenton Vollink, JP Mutombo.
