Hawks boys shoot season-low to beat South O’Brien golfers
The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys won their second consecutive War Eagle Conference meet with a 189-192 victory over South O’Brien April 22 at Primghar Golf and Country Club. The Hawks produced the top two medalists as Ben Haack shot a 42 and Samuel Heyn carded a 45.
“We shot the best score as a team thus far,” noted HMS coach Mark Japenga. “The kids are making some really good strides and bringing their scores down and staying out of trouble. We didn’t have near the penalty strokes as previous meets. The kids are looking to improve each time out and are definitely improving their skill set. The weather hasn’t been great, but they continue to battle and stay positive throughout. It’s very enjoyable to watch and work with them.”
