HMS boys score in numerous events at Okoboji Relays
The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys won two events and narrowly missed taking a third at the Okoboji Relays April 26 at Milford. Connor Dodd won the 100 meter dash in 11:33 and joined Noah Adams, Kooper Ebel and Dawson Schiphoff to capture the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 44.97. Adams, Schiphoff and Dodd, along with Ryan Borden ran the 4×200 meter relay in 1:35.43. That was just .01 seconds behind the winning team from Sioux Center.
Dodd ran second in the 200 meters as did Ebel in the 400. Adams finished third in the long jump. Also placing third was the sprint medley relay of Adams, Borden, Schiphoff and Ebel. Fifth-place finishes were turned in by Brenton Thomas in the 400 meter hurdles and Adam Schierholtz in the discus. Three relays came in fifth: the 4×400 of Borden, Travis Kamradt, Ethan Diehm and JP Mutombo, 4×800 meter relay of Ethan Diehm, Bryce Dodge, Alan Abonce, and Aidan Espeland and the distance medley relay of Bradley Zamudio, Mutombo, Travis Kamradt and Thomas) 5th, 4:10.03. Gabe Bronstad had a sixth-place finish in the shot put.
The Hawks finished fifth in the team standings with 67 points. Spirit Lake’s 125 points allowed them to win the team title by one point over Sioux Center.
