Hawks golf boys tie MMCRU but lose the tiebreaker
Tiebreaking criteria determined the winner when the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys took on MMCRU April 30 for a War Eagle Conference dual at the Marcus Golf Club. Each team finished with a 180 team total and the score of the fifth golfer on each team was used to break the tie. The dual had been postponed from April 8.
“We played better tonight, but we had too many penalty strokes,” noted Hawk coach Mark Japenga. “The kids are staying focused and overcoming some adversity. We need to manage the course better and not put ourselves in so much danger. We will continue to get better.”
Samuel Heyn was one of three golfers to turn in the low round of 41. He lost on the handicap hole and was relegated to the third place medal. Ben Haack’s round of 42 earned him the fourth-place medal.
Team scores: MMCRU 180 (won tiebreaker), HMS 180.
HMS varsity scores: Samuel Heyn 41, Ben Haack 42, Wyatt Borden 47, Nick Bronstad 50, Lucas Kroese 53, Keith DeBoer 56.
