Unity Christian jumps on Hawks early in three-inning rout
It was a tough night for a Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn softball team on the rebuild. Unity Christian scored five runs in the first inning and followed up with eight more in the second to trounce the Hawks 13-0 in three innings. The War Eagle Conference game was played June 11 at Hartley.
HMS was held to one hit – a triple by Darby Mastbergen. “The girls tried too hard to hit the ball and couldn’t perform under pressure,” stated Hawk head coach Stephanie Bronstad.
Taya Mason pitched 1-2/3 innings with nine runs on six walks, three hit batters and just one hit. She struck out one batter. Only three of the runs were earned. Gracie Knobloch allowed five hits and four earned runs in her 1-1/3 innings of work. She struck out a batter, walked a batter and hit a batter.
