Hawk bats muted in shutout loss to MMCRU
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s boys carried their big sticks to the plate against MMCRU, but it was those sticks that spoke softly. HMS was held to just one hit in a 9-0 loss to the Royals June 25 at Hartley.
Nick Bronstad was the Hawk who recorded the single. Both Jacob Cates and Keaton Graves coaxed bases on balls while Trenton Vollink reached on an error.
Carson Pick got the win for the Royals, pitching 6-1/3 innings and fanning 12 Hawk batters. Cade Pepper preserved the shutout in tossing the final 2/3 of an inning.
Taking the loss for HMS was Ben Haack. He threw four innings, yielding eight runs on six hits. Just three of the runs were earned. Haack walked three batters and struck out two. Dawson Schiphoff came on to pitch the final three innings. He allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out three. The Hawks were guilty of four errors.
