Unearned runs let Trinity Christian pull away from Hawks
Trinity Christian pitcher Alyssa Maassen tossed a four-hit shutout as the Tigers defeated Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 7-0 June 30 at Hull. The loss gave HMS a final War Eagle Conference record of 2-8 and dropped the Hawks to 4-16 on the season.
The hosts got a run in the first inning and then provided a hill for HMS to climb by adding on five more in the third. A run in the fourth closed out the scoring. Only one of those seven runs was earned.
Two pitchers each went three innings for the Hawks. Taking the loss was Taya Mason. She yielded six runs (one earned) on four hits. Mason recorded six strikeouts, two walks and one hit batter. Gracie Knobloch’s three innings included one unearned run on two hits. She struck out five batters and did not give up any free bases. HMS was guilty of five errors.
The four Hawks hits were distributed among a quartet of Hawk players. Knobloch’s hit was a double. The three singles came from Elle Mastbergen, Darby Mastbergen and Jessica Riedemann.
