Sanborn Celebrates Railroad Days this week

The time has arrived for the 2021 edition of Sanborn Railroad Days. Friday, Saturday and Sunday July 23, 24 and 25 are packed full of activities but the public can kick off the fun on Thursday by joining Iowa State Bank’s Sanborn location in celebrating their 16th Anniversary. They will be serving pork chops on a stick from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Yesterday’s Memories Museum. Speaking of the Museum, it will be open 8:00-4:00 on Friday and 1:00-6:00 on Saturday.
Friday features events sponsored by Commercial Chaos for a Cure, the Tri-State Chapter American Truck Historical Society and Vander Haag’s, Inc. Vehicles will be gathering for a Truck/Car/Motorcycle Show on Profit Street with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. Then in the evening First Street is the site for a Tractor Pull at 5:30, a Pickup Pull at 6:30 and a Truck Pull at 7:00. The evening will conclude with a Light Show and Fireworks in the First Street/Profit Street area.
Friday is the day for the annual Antique Tractor Ride which rolls out at 9:00 a.m. on Profit Street. A Vendor Fair with concessions provided by the Jr. Bowlers will be held in the Opera House building (formerly the location of Roth TV). The Fair will be open from 10:00-8:00 on both Friday and Saturday. Just to the north, ReBorn Treasures is hosting its Stage Two Grand Opening on Friday and Saturday from 9:00-7:00.
Sanborn Preservation Society is hosting a Welcome Home Gathering on Friday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Sanborn Carnegie Hall. Sanborn City Park is the location for music from the Four For Him Quartet beginning at 6:00 p.m. and sponsored by Elgersma Agency. The hours for free swimming at Sanborn Aquatic Center are Friday 12:00-6:00 and Saturday 12:00-5:00 and 6:00-9:00, all courtesy of Prins Insurance. From 9:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m. Friday, Rails and Bowl Mor are bringing a DJ (Stovetop Productions) to Main Street.
On Saturday Sanborn Christian School is hosting its annual 5K Race/1 Mile Fun Run and Walk at Miller Park. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. with the race to start at 8:00 a.m. The Railroad Days Parade commences at 10:30 a.m. The parade route includes Main Street, West Fourth Street and Prospect Street.
Saturday activities at City Park include Face Painting (11:00-4:00), Bounce Around Inflatables (12:00-4:00), Cornhole Tournament (1:00 p.m.), Kids Pedal Pull (4:00 p.m.) and Movie in the Park: “Dolittle” (dusk).
Saturday on Profit Street the People’s Choice for the Truck/Car/Motorcycle Show runs from 10:30-3:00. The Poker Run begins at 11:30 a.m. and a Jake Brake Competition at 4:00 p.m.
Shuttles will run from City Park to Profit Street all day Saturday.
Saturday concludes with a Street Dance from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the band Rewinder. The event is sponsored by Rails and Bowl Mor.
On Sunday morning a Community Worship Service with a Community Choir will be held in City Park from 9:30-10:30. The Rails Cruise In will fill Main Street with numerous shine and show vehicles of interest. The event opens to the public at noon.
