Thursday, August 12, 1971
Sanborn’s Second Flea Market was indeed “Bigger and Better Than Ever” with huge crowds scanning the Main Street sidewalks for bargains last Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown and family left Sunday for a week’s vacation in the Black Hills.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Noll, Mark and Mike left Monday for a vacation in Phoenix, AZ.
The Ralph Dasen family returned from a 2-week camping vacation on August 6…While camping at Mt. Rainer, the Dasens were pleasantly surprised to find that Dave Glover and Mike Tinker, also Sanbornites, were camped across from them. The group enjoyed visiting and supper together at the Dasen campsite.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Van Veldhuizen and family returned home Friday after visiting relatives at Lynden, WA.
Mr. and Mrs. Vic Vogelaar and family returned home Saturday after spending the past two weeks at a lake near Alexandria, MN.

Five Cadets from the Sanborn area attended this year’s Camporee at Kamp Kananaska, Alberta Canada. They included Kelly Roder, Kyle Bootsma, Daniel Oldenkamp, Kyle Van Beek and Deric Bootsma.
Fred and Gerry Boer attended the Boer reunion held at the Presbyterian Camp at Lake Okoboji on Friday and Saturday

Merne Haack has been appointed temporary town clerk on a part-time basis until a replacement can be found to fill the vacancy of Town Clerk and Director of Public Works.
Mary Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brown, has completed 2100 hours of training at Stewart School of Hairstyling at Sioux City.
Herschel Taylor, Sanborn, has been growing cotton plants. He planted indoors and when the danger of frost was gone he moved the surviving plants outdoors in his garden. The blooming plants were pictured in this issue.
The Brady Athletic Field has received a new scoreboard…the chief sponsors of the “Scoreboard Fund” are the Mi’Ono Club.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Goldhorn and girls returned home Saturday after visiting for two weeks in Woodland, CA with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Ewert.
Mrs. Gary Japenga and three sons are visiting her mother, Olive Loafman. Gary will graduate with a BE degree from Mankato Business School this Friday. He will teach at Moville this coming year.

Kenny Elgersma executed a hole-in-one last Saturday at Sanborn Golf & Country Club. He used a pitching wedge to ace the par 3 seventh hole.
The First Reformed Church garage sale held Saturday paid off well for Catherine Kroese. A bag of craft material from her house was brought to the sale and sold for 25 cents. The bag also contained a “Catherine Kroese” label. The buyer took her purchase home and in the contents found a diamond ring which Catherine had lost several years ago. Catherine commented “Praise God for honest people.”
