Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn traveled to the Sibley Golf & Country Club September 7 for the Sibley Cross Country Invitational. The meet drew a number of quality teams and a large number schools in all were represented. This was the first time the Hawks had run in a meet since August 26. They were scheduled for a September 2 meet hosted by Okoboji but that competition was cancelled due to the wet weather.
The HMS boys scored 306 points to place 12th out of 17 teams. Sioux Center won the meet with a score of 44. Western Christian was not far behind with a score of 50.
The Hawk girls were last among the 10 schools that were able to put a team together. There was a close race as well for the girls team title. Cherokee compiled a score of 62 to narrowly better the host Generals’ score of 66.
For the Hawk boys Bryce Dodge finished 32nd, George Vargas 34th, Aiden Bush 78th, Blaine Finster 85th and Aiden Jensen 89th.
Madison Otto was the top finisher for the HMS girls with a 27th-place effort. Kamryn Ebel came in 53rd. Further back were Juliana Pasillas who was 83rd, Gracie Knobloch who placed 86th and Ashleigh Vermeer who finished 88th.
Running for HMS in the boys JV race were Ryan Grotluschen who turned in a 31st-place finish, Damian Dodge who came in 38th and Gavin Faulkner who was 48th. Faulkner’s results from the Cherokee meet August 26 were unintentionally omitted. There he placed 17th in JV competition with a time of 29:55.
