Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn welcomed runners from nine other schools to Sanborn Golf & Country Club September 20 for the HMS Cross Country Invite. The highest finishers for the Hawk girls and boys respectively were Madison Otto, who took 13th place, and George Vargas, who came in 17th.
The HMS boys total of 165 placed them eighth among the nine teams. The boys winner was Sioux Central with a 56 total. The Sibley-Ocheydan girls, with a 41 score, slipped past Cherokee and their total of 43. The Hawks produced a 175 total that was last among the seven girls teams.
For the HMS boys Bryce Dodge finished 26th, Aiden Bush 35th, Blaine Finster 46th, Aiden Jensen 47th, Damian Dodge 51st and Ryan Grotluschen 56th. Gavin Faulkner placed 13th in the JV race. Following Otto across the finish line for the Hawk girls were Kamryn Ebel (34th), Ashleigh Vermeer (44th), Gracie Knobloch (45th) and Juliana Pasillas (46th).
