Nielsen leads Akron-Westfield past Hawks in three
Akron-Westfield standout middle hitter Natalie Nielsen led the Westerners past Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in three games October 14 at Hartley. The senior powered down 19 kills (with a kill efficiency of .667) and recorded three blocks as A-W won 25-11, 25-11 and 25-8. The loss gave the Hawks a final record of 1-9 in the War Eagle Conference and a 10th-place finish. HMS entered Monday night’s Class 2A Regional Tournament game at Sioux Central with an overall mark of 1-16.
The Hawks’ Jasmine Lux registered six of the team’s 11 kills. Three more came from Kaley Pearson, who led HMS with five set assists. Lux also made a solo block while Emily Otto was credited with a pair of block assists. Elise Haack came up with 10 digs and Pearson added another five.
Serving was a positive for the Hawks as they were successful on all 30 of their serves. Busiest at the service line were Pearson with eight offerings and Abby Kunzman and Abby Otto each with five.
