Hawk girls lose home opener to Woodbury Central
Woodbury Central built a 22-point halftime lead and went on to defeat Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 51-36 December 2 at Hartley. HMS responded by outscoring the Wildcats 12-5 in the third quarter but the deficit was too great to overcome in the home opener for the Hawks.
Scoring for HMS showed Jasmine Lux with 12 points, Lydia Harders with eight, Emily Mutombo with six, Elise Haack and Emily Otto with three apiece and Kylee Schiphoff and Abby Douma each with two. Otto and Schiphoff each claimed seven rebounds with Lux grabbing six. The 14 HMS steals included five by Harders and four by Haack.
Successful field goal shooting proved to be a struggle for the Hawks. HMS was 14-of-50 from the floor for 28 percent. The Hawks were 1-of-8 from three-point range and 7-of-16 from the free throw line. HMS limited its turnover total to seven.
