Okoboji/HMS went up against a strong wrestling field December 18 at Spencer’s Austin Roberts Memorial Tournament. The Pioneers finished in the middle of the pack, scoring 85 points and placing seventh among the 15 teams. Jackson County, MN won the tournament with 269 points, outdistancing Sergeant Bluff-Luton which finished with 232.5 total.
Nick Bronstad at 285 pounds and Dylan Jones at 120 were the top finishers for the Pioneers as they each placed third. Bronstad lost a 1-0 decision in the semifinals to West Lyon’s Easton Fleshman before wrestling back for third. Jones lost in the quarterfinals and then won his final three matches.
HMS wrestler James Gellerman placed seventh at 182 pounds. Another HMS grappler, Bryce Dodge lost both of his matches at 170 pounds.
