HMS School Board President resigns
Noting that that time was right, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn School Board President Scott Heetland has submitted his letter of resignation to the Board. The resignation was effective January 1.
Heetland indicated there were no hard feelings but with the two new buildings in the District up and running it was time to move on. He helped steer the completion of the Elementary School in 2020 and the Middle School in 2021. The facilities improvements were made possible by the passage of an $18.9 million bond issue in 2018.
The May City-area farmer was first elected to the School Board in 2008. He served as Board President for eight of his 13 years.
The School Board plans to fill the Director District 4 vacancy by appointment at its January 17 meeting. Electors of the HMS District have the right to file a petition requiring that the vacancy be filled by a special election. The petition(s) must be received by the Board Secretary by January 13.
