Alice Offringa age 100 of Sibley, Iowa, died Saturday, January 1, 2022 at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley, IA.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 6 at the Christian Reformed Church of Sibley, IA, with Rev. Ben Wiersma officiating. Burial was at Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn, IA.
Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley is in charge of services.
Alice Offringa was born on January 25, 1921 on a farm, just west of Sheldon, IA, the daughter of Joe and Jessie (DeJager) Verdoorn. She attended country school and graduated from eighth grade.
Alice married her next-door neighbor Sybrand W. Offringa on March 21, 1939, in her parents’ home near Sanborn, IA. They farmed at Sanborn, IA, Chandler, MN, Ocheyedan, IA, Harris, IA and Lismore, MN. She helped on the farm with the crops and taking care of livestock, including milk cows, beef cattle, hogs, chickens and sheep. Alice moved to Sibley, IA after her husband, Sybrand, passed and was employed in the kitchen at Country View Manor and Sibley Specialty Care.
She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Sibley, IA. Alice made countless quilts, ceramics, embroidery, crocheted many afghans and doilies, never following a pattern, just by looking. Many family members have these to treasure. She also did many puzzles and loved playing Scrabble and various card games. Her Bible was so important to her.
On March 28, 2019, she moved from her home to the Viola Home in Sibley. After a fall in May, 2021 she entered Sibley Specialty Care. Alice passed away on January 1, 2022.
Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters, Jessa (Gary) Wolter of Ocheyedan, IA, Reka Post of Sibley, IA, Jolene (Roland) Thomsen of Round Lake, MN, Arlyce (John) Elias of George, IA. Eleven grandchildren, Delane (Kristin) Wolter, Renae Wolter, Brenda Post (fiancé Mark Steil), Duane (Molly) Post, Scott (Carissa) Post, Stacy (Daniel) Wrightsman, Kimberly (Christian) Case, Kayla (Daniel) Dykstra, Andrea (Garrett) Christensen, Leisa (Gary) Kwong. Twenty-two great-grandchildren, Madison, Paige, Camryn Wolter, Clint Henrichs, Ethan (Sierra) Post, Mason, Mackensie, Mallory Post, Courtney Post, Gavin, Nolan Wrightsman, Hannah, Kaden, Rachel, Emma Case, Tressa, Zakary, Darin Dykstra, Caitlyn, Aubrey, Caleb Christensen, Miles, Pierce Kwong.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 35 ½ years, Sybrand on Oct 26, 1974, an infant son, son-in-law Charles Post, granddaughter Rhonda (Post) Henrichs and her husband George Henrichs, infant granddaughter (Post) her parents Joe & Jessie, brothers, William and Mitchell, sister Gertrude Vogelaar.
