Hawk boys lose a close one to West Sioux
Okoboji/HMS traveled to Orange City January 20 for a double dual. The Pioneers captured a 42-37 win over the host Dutchmen. Okoboji/HMS came up short in a 43-34 loss to Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley. The Pioneers dual record is 9-10.
Wrestlers from HMS competing were Jonathan Ortiz at 145 pounds, James Gellerman at 182, Ethan Wiersma at 195 and Nick Bronstad at 285.
Ortiz lost by fall to MOC-Floyd Valley’s Kooper Huss in 30 seconds and to the Nighthawks’ Diego Palma in 1:07.
Gellerman recorded two wins by fall, pinning Beau Weber of the Dutchmen in 1:58 and Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley’s Isaac Van Beek in 3:01.
Wiersma came out on the short end of two decisions. He lost 7-2 to MOC-Floyd Valley’s Jesus Ramirez and fell 12-6 to the Nighthawks’ Casey Pick.
It took only 28 seconds for Bronstad to pin Kyle Walding of the Dutchmen. Bronstad also won by fall over Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley’s with the match ending in 1:34.
