New Library Location Proposed for Archer
by Mari Radtke
Decisions for an Archer City Library have been a long time coming. Former mayor Richard Ludeke was able to get barely a quorum of council members to vote to close the Archer Library From October to April on 2020. The Library reopened in April of 2021 and has been continuously serving the public ever since. During that time the library board, the city council and Library Director Annee Carlson have been working toward being able to make an announcement to the Archer residents. That day has arrived. At the December meeting of the Archer Council they decided the best location is south of the city park and ball field. That consensus was reaffirmed On January 12. In addition to a location, new councilperson Vanessa Harig volunteered to serve on the committee. Council also agreed to set a date and time to present ideas and recommendations to the residents before further decisions are made. Mayor Nathan Mueller suggested that community meeting be set for a place and time in March or April. Residents should expect to get information about the meeting in their utility bill.
Council reappointed Micah Schreurs as City Attorney at $200 per hour. The update of the ordinance book was also reported to be about halfway complete. It will be brought to the council for consideration. The new plow truck is having issues. Some have been addressed, but the loss of antifreeze is still unresolved.
A discussion of next year’s budget brought out an interest in street repairs and drainage issues in the far north of the community. The maximum levy public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday February 8 during the regular council meeting.
