Comets streak past HMS girls

A pressing Boyden-Hull team gained the early upper hand in picking up a 54-32 victory over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn January 27 at Hartley. The Comets blazed out to a 22-3 lead after one quarter. After that the Hawks hung with the visitors from the Siouxland Conference but were unable to avoid falling to 4-11 on the season.
HMS shot just 22 percent for the game and was guilty of 23 turnovers. The hosts connected on 11 of their 50 field goal attempts and that included a 2-for-12 night from long range. HMS dropped in eight of its 14 free throw attempts.
Lydia Harders led the Hawk effort with 10 points and eight rebounds. Kylee Schiphoff supplied nine points, five boards and four steals. Emily Mutombo contributed four points, two rebounds and two steals. Frankie Mohni added three points, Gracie Knobloch and Abby Douma two apiece and Elise Haack and Jasmine Lux one each. Lux also pulled down seven rebounds and made three steals. Emily Otto grabbed three rebounds while Haack and Knobloch each collected two.
