Hinton closes out Hawk girls
Hinton pulled away late to hand Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn a 53-39 War Eagle Conference loss January 28 at Hartley. HMS trailed by only two points, 39-37, early in the fourth quarter but was outscored 14-2 the rest of the way.
The Hawks fell behind 21-11 eight minutes into the contest. They won the third quarter 14-7 to get back in the game.
Jasmine Lux turned in a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Elise Haack scored eight points, Gracie Knobloch seven, Lydia Harders six, Kylee Schiphoff four and Emily Otto two. Harders pulled down 11 rebounds and Schiphoff grabbed another eight. Collecting two steals apiece were Haack, Lux and Schiphoff. Hinton turned the ball over 18 times.
HMS shot 35 percent from the floor compared to 32 percent for the Blackhawks but the home team was guilty of 30 turnovers. Each team had 17 made field goals. There were 49 attempts for the Hawks and 53 for Hinton. The Blackhawks attempted 25 three-pointers and made five. HMS was 3-of-15 from beyond the arc and 2-of-3 at the charity stripe. Hinton went 14-of-23 at the free throw line, including 7-of-10 in the fourth quarter.
