Eileen Riead – 1923-2022

Eileen Riead was born in Sioux City, Iowa on April 16, 1923 to Albert and Clara Guse.
She was raised in Sanborn and attended school there and graduated from Sanborn High School. After attending and graduating from Morningside College as a Music and English major, she received her certificate for teaching. She specialized in playing the piano and vocal music. During her time at Morningside, which was during WWII, she met her future husband who was doing his cadet training at Morningside. After graduation she taught Junior High School music in Titonka, Iowa.
Eileen was married after the war to Lt. David Riead in Sanborn at St Andrews Methodist church. They spent their early married life in Plattsmouth, Nebraska where their son, David was born and passed away. Their second child, Janet was born while they were stationed at Scott Field, Illinois. Their third child, Cynthia, was born during his assignment at Selfridge AFB, Michigan.
Eileen easily adapted to numerous assignments both in the United States and overseas. She always connected to women’s church organizations, and was involved in her children’s education and extracurricular activities.
Their last assignment was in Colorado Springs, Colorado where they continued to make their home. Eileen became involved in the First United Methodist Church where she participated in the choir; UMW, Sunshine Circle and DUO class. She also taught Sunday School at the church. She loved her family which grew to six grandchildren with whom she was actively involved. She frequently brought them to church. She enjoyed sewing clothing and costumes for the family.
Eileen passed away on February 26, 2022 at the age of 98.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Albert, son David, brother Herbert, and husband, David and a great-great-granddaughter Ellie. She is survived by daughters Janet Epstein and Cynthia Gottlieb, grandchildren Shannon, Jeremy (Monica), Nathan (Greta) Haggstrom, Laura (Gary) Cox, Celeste (Tom) Frazier, Melanie Howard. Great grandchildren River, Hannah, Layla, Wesley, Ellen, Gus, Dale, Sarah, Cammron, Hope, Logan and Stephanie and one great-great-granddaughter Brooke.
Memorial services will be in the Lemberg Chapel on March 19th, in Colorado Springs. Burial will be at the Ft Logan cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
