Hawk girls finish a strong fourth at Hawk Relays
The Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn track and field girls placed well in a number of events to finish just out of third place at the Hawk Relays held April 22 at Hartley. The fourth-place Hawks totaled 81 points, just three shy of the 84 points compiled by Sibley-Ocheyedan. Distancing themselves from the rest of the field were Okoboji (147 team points) and Cherokee (141).
Emily Mutombo was a winner in the long jump and teamed with Abby Otto, Lydia Harders and Jasmine Lux to capture the distance medley relay. Mutombo and Lux recorded runner-up finishes in the 100 meters and the 200 meters respectively.
Second place was also the finishing position for a couple of relays. Just missing out on first were the 4×100 of Abby Otto, Mutombo, Harders and Lux and the 4×400 of Abby Otto, Harders, Kylee Schiphoff and Lux.
Harders finished third in the 200, likewise Anna VanderVeen in the 400 hurdles. Fourth place went to Madison Otto in the 3000 meter run.
