The Buttercup opened April 15 for the summer season. This is their 20th season.
Vernon Bogaard, owner of the Ace Cafe, is remodeling the building to the north and will move into the new location in the very near future…He plans to tear down the old building, one of the oldest on Main Street. Cy Pitts had a grocery store there in the early years..An antique bottle filled with harness oil was found in the back of the building during the remodeling. It sported the old style pry-off cap.
Mrs. Alice Mayden, teacher at the Sanborn Community School, is retiring after 29 years as elementary teacher.

Mr. and Mrs. Al Koepp have leased the Pike Cafe and Lounce from Mr. and Mrs. Tom Endorf.
The J.W. Cravens Agency has announced the following sales: Mrs. Earl Mayne home sold to the Jake Kuipers of California, Philip Lowe home to the Dave Engelkes, the Marlyn Raymond home to the Donald Hinkeys.

Mark Donkersloot reported that a beaver had severely damaged the bark on a tree at their residence in east Sanborn on Petrich Avenue…the beaver was in the storm sewer and the fire department flushed it out with water from a tanker. The beaver was shot. Mark thought it might have come from a creek and followed the railroad track and then ditch to their residence.
