Ebel gives HMS boys a conference champ at War Eagle Meet
Kooper Ebel’s proficiency in the 400 meter dash provided Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn with a conference champion as determined in competition at the War Eagle Conference Meet held May 3 at Hinton. The junior circled the track in a time of 51.84 to record the day’s only first-place finish for the Hawks.
Connor Dodd finished second to Gehlen Catholic standout Keaten Bonderson in both the 100 and 200 meters. In fact, Bonderson set a meet record of 22.14 in the 200. The speedy 4×100 unit of Ryan Borden, Ethan Diehm, Ebel and Dodd was a close second to the group from West Sioux. Off the track, Diehm took home third place in the long jump.
In other individual results, Ebel was fifth in the 200 and Borden placed sixth in the 100. Also coming in sixth were Adam Schierholz in the shot put and Aiden Espeland in the 800 meter run.
The distance medley relay team of Tyson Tessum, Bradley Zamudio, Brenton Thomas and Bryce Dodge finished third. Taking fourth was the 4×200 relay group of Borden, Diehm, Travis Kamradt and Dodd while Tessum, Zamudio, Kamradt and Borden combined to finish fifth in the sprint medley relay. Sixth-place finishes went to the 4×400 relay of Kamradt, Ryan Grotluschen, Tessum and Thomas and the 4×800 relay of Grotluschen, Alan Abonce, Aiden Bush and Aiden Jensen.
HMS finished sixth out of 11 teams, scoring 59 points. Gehlen Catholic totaled 102 points to reign as conference team champions.
