Mrs. Robert (Alice) Mayden, teacher of the third and fourth grades of Sanborn Community School for the past 14 years, was honored with a surprise party in the school lunch room last Thursday. She will retire upon completion of this school year.

The second graders of the Christian School, with their teacher, Miss Darlene Wallenburg, visited the Sanborn Pioneer last Thursday afternoon.
It was announced this week that Gene Wietzema has resigned as secretary of the Sanborn Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Bill Dummett will serve as the new secretary for the organization.
Commencement exercises were held Friday in the Sanborn Community School gym. Valedictorian was Robert Ellett, salutatorian was Anne Menke. Also graduating with highest honors was Rebecca Hakeman and graduating with honors was Joseph McCarty.
Gerrit Prince spent from Saturday to Wednesday of last week attending the Amana Pro-Am Invitational Golf Tournament at the Emerald Green Country Club in Las Vegas.

Anyone who would like to help Rick and Sue Borden celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, come to Miller Park Shelter House May 26, 2-4.
An open house will be held May 18, 2-4 p.m. to honor Ron Arndt, Mark Butt and Jerry Olson who are retiring from HMS Schools. Dennis Gardner, who is also retiring, has chosen to have a staff reception.

Ann Byers was recognized at the HMS School board meeting for her Future Farmers of America degree. She is the first female student at HMS to achieve this high honor.
Dennis Gardner will retire at the end of this school year completing 31 years of teaching 7th, 8th and 9th grade Language Arts in the Sanborn and HMS schools.
