Early scoring barrage helps MMCRU cruise past Hawks
MMCRU made an early statement with nine runs in the first inning. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was able to score only a couple on the night and suffered a 17-2 loss to the Royals in four innings June 24 at Marcus. The loss dropped HMS to 1-8 in the War Eagle Conference and 3-14 overall.
Carson Pick limited the Hawks to just one hit. It figured in the two-run fourth. Jordan Ortega led off the inning with a single. Tanner Tesch and Nick Bronstad each earned a walk to load the bases. Jack Mastbergen drew yet another walk to force in a run with Ortega scoring. Tesch came home after Evan Eilers lifted a sacrifice fly to left.
Eilers got the pitching start for HMS but had to relinquish the ball after 2/3 of an inning and eight runs. He allowed three hits and five walks while striking out one. Tyson Tessum tossed the second and third innings and retired one batter in the fourth. He surrendered nine runs on nine hits. Tessum walked six batters and hit one. There was only one HMS error and the Royals earned every one of their runs.
