HMS stalls on the bases as Royals win in nine
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn put plenty of people on base in a nine-inning game with MMCRU. However, the Hawks could only get one of them home and lost a 2-1 nailbiter June 24 at Cleghorn. The loss dropped HMS to 2-7 in War Eagle Conference play.
“This was a great game played tonight by both teams,” commented Hawk head coach Stephanie Bronstad. “Gracie (Knobloch) pitched a strong game, the girls hit the ball and played some good defense. We left some runners on that I wish we could have moved around but, overall, very happy.”
HMS stranded 12 runners, the Royals only five. The Hawks outhit their hosts 13-7. HMS finally answered MMCRU’s second-inning run with a run of their own in the fifth. The process was pretty simple. Knobloch hit a one-out double. She came home on Bailey VerHelst’s RBI single.
Both Knobloch and Abby Otto had three hits in the game. Eliza Tewes notched a double and a single. Abby Kunzman singled twice. Cadence Klein, Frankie Mohni and VerHelst each had one hit.
Knobloch went the distance and was the hard-luck loser. She allowed the seven hits, struck out two batters, walked one and hit one. Both MMCRU runs were earned. The teams played a clean game with no errors.
