FIFTY YEARS AGO Thursday, July 6,, 1972
Town workmen have been busy this past week cutting down and trimming diseased elm trees on town property. So far about 38 have been marked for removal because of Dutch Elm Disease.
Wilbur Smith, Postal Clerk, retired from duty in the Sanborn Post Office effective June 30, 1972. He has 30 years working for the government of which three plus years was in the Navy.
Donna Bosch and Mike Van Engen, and Bev Haack from Hospers have been selected to tour with the Young World Singers, Inc., a non-denominational singing group of 25 young people.
The Cadets of the Christian Reformed Church enjoyed the Twins-Angels ballgame at Minneapolis last week Wednesday.
Mrs. Marie Eason was guest of honor at a card party Wednesday evening in the C. Maris home…Mrs. Eason and family are moving to California soon.

The Prairie View Auxiliary will host an ice cream social at Prairie View at 7 p.m. July 15 in the Prairie View Home parking lot.
Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Haak will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on July 12. A card shower is planned in their honor.
The Rev. Jani L. Dahlin, pastor of United Methodist Church in Sanborn, was among 96 who were ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church during special services June 8 at Ames.
The First Annual Youth/Adult Golf Tournament was held Saturday at Sanborn Golf & Country Club. The teams consisted of youth between the ages of 7 and 18 paired with an adult 19 years and up…There were over 50 participating.
