Authentically You Yoga and Wellness Studio Opening in Sanborn with Open House
If you’re looking to relieve some stress in your life, a new yoga studio might be the answer. Authentically You Yoga and Wellness Studio prepares to open soon in Sanborn at the Vander Haag building at 606 Carroll Street, just across the hall from Family Health Chiropractic. There will be an Open House to celebrate the grand opening of the yoga studio on Saturday, August 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The open house will give people a chance to see what it is all about and try a free 30-min class if they choose. The studio will actually open up on August 29th.
Yoga is a great way to not only relieve stress, but also to increase flexibility, muscle strength and tone and to help with weight reduction. Yoga is an ancient and complex practice, rooted in Indian philosophy. It began as a spiritual practice but has become popular as a way of promoting physical and mental well-being.
Julie McCarty decided to open her studio in Sanborn to make yoga and other events she will hold more accessible to others in the surrounding towns since there is not a studio within a good drive.
She is excited to have the opportunity to bring the practice of yoga to this area. McCarty has worked in the health care field for over 10 years as a Registered Nurse. She just completed her 200-hour yoga teacher certification program. McCarty is currently merging her health care background and yoga training to complete a 500-hour yoga medicine certification.
“Sanborn is a great town,” said McCarty. “I consider myself very fortunate to have the opportunity to have a business in the area, especially in the location that I am going to be. I look forward to bringing new classes and concepts as I continue my studies.”
Julie became interested in yoga when she lived in Colorado many years ago. She told us, “I attended Yoga quite a bit but it wasn’t until I moved to Hartley when I decided to take teacher training. This is a 200-hour program where you get a chance to learn many facets of yoga. I am also currently working on my 500-hour yoga medicine certification. I found this to be a great way to combine my yoga training and my background in the medical field.”
When asked to talk about yoga with us Julie said, “Do you have several hours? Like many of us who teach yoga, I could talk for hours about what yoga has meant to me and what I have learned. The really cool thing is that there are so many different types of yoga and so many reasons people are drawn to it. Whether you are using it strictly as a physical exercise or a way to help alignment in the body or if you are more drawn to the relaxation and calming benefits, there really is something for everyone. I am always open to talk about yoga in depth with others but with each yoga class I teach, there will be movement, breath work and sharing of knowledge.”
Authentically You Yoga and Wellness Studio will have different types of yoga classes including a beginners series. This beginners series will span the whole month, once a week so a total of four classes. McCarty will offer these in the morning and evening on two different days of the week to give more options for those interested. There will also be a restorative yoga class that will be held once a week in the evening. Said McCarty, “I have some beautiful people in my life that help support me in my yoga journey who will do what we call ‘pop up’ classes. A great friend of mine does an awesome strong flow class and I am happy to have her once a month.” Julie is also planning to do a kids yoga series. One-on-one sessions will be offered as well. “I am also glad to work with people privately for a more personalized approach,” she said.
McCarty went on to say, “One of my passions is mental health and whole body wellness so as I am working towards my 500 hour yoga medicine training, I will be adding special workshops occasionally that focus on specific wellness topics. Next week I go to Denver to work on a myofascial release training and I plan to incorporate that!”
The hours for Authentically You Yoga and Wellness Studio will be based on the class times. Each month Julie will create a schedule and publish it ahead of time. She finds that this gives her flexibility to make changes to classes and times based off the needs and wants of those attending. As of now, most classes will be during the week with a potential of a Saturday morning yoga class.
McCarty is originally from the East Coast, most recently North Carolina. She moved to Hartley in the spring of 2021 where she resides with her husband Justin McCarty and their two girls Sophia, age 6, and Ginny, age 2. They live on the farm where her husband grew up, sharing it with some farm cats and some goats.
Saturday’s Open House will feature light refreshments with The Big Acai food truck on location from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be local vendors and a drawing for prizes at 1:00 p.m.
Julie plans to lead several mini yoga session during the open house. She hopes this will allow people wanting to give it a try a space to do so. The schedule for those classes is:
Beginners Yoga at 10:30 a.m.
Yoga Flow at 11:30 a.m.
Yoga Dance at 1:30 p.m.
Kids Yoga at 2:30 p.m.
Beginners Yoga at 3:30 p.m.
Each session will last approximately 30 minutes.
Julie said this about the Open House, “I wanted to have an official Open House in order to get to know people and share what we are all about. I wanted to also invite other like-minded local businesses from our general area to be a part of this which is why I am thrilled to have a few vendors.”
With the opening of her studio, Julie hopes to impress upon others that yoga is for everyone! “No matter if you have never heard of it or feel that you may be alone and unsure of what it is all about. I have had the privilege of speaking with many people about yoga in our area and so many are in this boat. I named my studio ‘Authentically You’ because it is my desire that those who enter the doors can be themselves and we can all learn and grow together.”
