A week before the gridiron season kicks off, the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn football team will be on the field with their counterparts from Spirit Lake. The scrimmage is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 19 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Hafer Field in Spirit Lake.
“It will not look like a varsity football game,” noted HMS head coach Jay Eilers. “It will be varsity versus varsity and JV versus JV. We plan to run 24 to 27 plays on offense and defense for the varsity.”
Spirit Lake is asking for donations of Gatorade as admission to the scrimmage.
The Class A Hawks open the season on Friday, Aug. 26 at Hawarden against Class 1A opponent West Sioux.
Switching to the court, HMS Volleyball will participate in George-Little Rock’s JV tournament Monday, Aug. 22 at George. The Hawks’ varsity schedule begins the next night with the West Lyon tournament at Inwood.
