The past week for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn’s cross country runners began September 26 at the Alta Golf and Country Club. That’s where the Alta-Aurelia Cross Country Meet was held.
For the Hawk boys, George Vargas finished in 15th place. Bryce Dodge was next in 33rd place, followed by Ryan Grotluschen in 51st place, Damian Dodge in 54th place and Aiden Bush in 56th place. HMS was eighth as a team with 187 points. Sioux Central was the winner with a score of 67.
Lexi Croatt turned in a 33rd-place finish for the girls. Gracie Knobloch placed 37th, Juliana Pasillas 51st and Clara Funk 58th. Sibley-Ocheyedan and Cherokee tied with the low score of 49. The tie-breaker awarded the Generals the team win. HMS, with only four girls running, did not receive points in the team race.
