Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn ended the regular season October 13 with a road trip to Akron to take on Akron-Westfield. HMS was unable to capture a set as the Westerners won 25-20, 25-16 and 25-14. The Hawks finished eighth in the War Eagle Conference with a record of 3-7. They went into Monday’s Class 2A Regional Tournament contest at Sibley-Ocheyedan with an overall mark of 8-16.
Abby Douma continued a good week on the attack with nine kills and a .400 kill efficiency. Frankie Mohni assisted on 20 of the team’s 21 kills. Elise Haack notched five kills and a team-high 20 digs. Emily Mutombo added another 11 digs. Morgan Grooters was 8-for-8 serving including an ace serve. Also serving 8-for-8 was Abby Kunzman.
