Stop Sign Request on Newly Paved Street Denied
County Engineer Scott Rinehart brought a request to the Supervisors about installing a stop sign to eastbound traffic at the intersection of S. Western Avenue (Redwood Avenue outside of city limits) and 330th Street (County Road B20). New paving has been completed on 330th Street on the mile from that intersection east to Walker Street. The paving project is the south border of a new housing development in Sanborn. The paving project costs were split between the city and county. It was noted that the supervisors had declined a prior request for a stop sign at that location. The addition, if accepted would make the intersection a 3-way stop.
The supervisors considered the question. Dennis Vanden Hull asked about farm to elevator traffic at that intersection. Discussion about traffic counts, a trail in the area, or a pedestrian crossing was not convincing to the board. They did recognize growth in the area. The request did get a motion and second but failed on vote with only John Steensma voting in favor of the stop sign.
