Roy Tifft was featured on the front page of The Sanborn Pioneer this week. He was one of the oldest active firemen on the volunteer fire department. He joined 45 years ago…When he started fighting fires they went out with a hose cart operated by manpower. …In 1928 Sanborn got their first LaFrance fire truck… Two of the worst fires he could recall were the Andringa garage fire in 1928 and The Company Ice House Fire….Roy was also on hand to fight the famous 4th of July fire in Spencer in 1931. Seven from Sanborn went.
There will be an open house for Walter Ver Hoef in honor of his 90th birthday on October 15 at the Sanborn Legion Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Willus Ruich will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary at open house on October 14 at Sanborn Community School beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The former Don Noll house recently purchased by Dr. C. Maris was put on wheels ready to roll Tuesday.
Walter Ver Hoef who celebrated his 90th birthday at open house Sunday, was pictured in this issue of the Pioneer looking at a letter of congratulations received from President Nixon.
Mon., October 23 has been proclaimed by Mayor Wilbur Merriam as “Dr. Maris Day” in Sanborn in appreciation for his unselfish devotion to his profession and the many years of dedicated service to this community.
Martin Stofferan & Partners of Sanborn have purchased the Paullina Cement Tile Factory from Delmar Laue.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO

Ray Schnurr Jr. scored a hole-in-one October 12 on Number 12 at Sanborn Golf and Country Club. He used a 6 iron….Ray also had a hole-in-one in August 1994 on number 7.
The HMS Marching Hawks earned a Division I Rating at the State Music Band Festival held October 11 at Orab Field in Sheldon.
The first snow of the season fell Monday afternoon. Gusty winds ushered in colder temperatures.

Monday night brought the first hard freeze to the area.
Nathan Oldenkamp, Erin Chaffin, and Lajeanna Van Engen made Profession of Faith at the Christian Reformed Church service Sunday with Rev. Dale Fopma officiating.
